The Wet Walk-a-thon

Hi guys!
What I am about to tell you about happened BEFORE I LEFT Melbourne.

Well it was my last day of school, looked like a pretty decent day. Nice and dry. No rain, yet. Then, right before we set out for the Walk-a-thon, it started to rain. That put a damper on things, but we weren't planing on giving up. Nope. It was said to clear up in a half hour. So, we waited that half hour doing some small tests. Mainly reading and self evaluation, but some math too.

After that half hour, we set out with only a light drizzle of rain. That would not last for long. Any ways, the walk to the Botanical Gardens, were the Walk-a-thon was taking place, was really quite nice. When we arrived, we waited for something. We set off a few minutes later. I was walking with two of my friends, one of which had an umbrella. One problem started to form five minutes into the walk. It started to rain more and more. Harder and harder.  Soon, it became a full out storm.

Lightning struck. Little first graders screamed. My friends and I were walking up front, with the little kids who either ran for their lives toward the front or cowered under the umbrella. We all picked up the pace as puddles formed around our feet. Through a sea of little kids, we weaved around everyone. My friend that had the umbrella kept swerving away from people who tried to come under it. Eventually, we found a teacher who was leading a group out of the gardens. Mostly first graders were in that group, but we went anyways.

As we reached the cross walk, we realized there were other 6th graders in the area. At the front of the group were two boys from our class and just behind us was a group of girls. We all quickly crossed the street. We were a line of about 100, so I'm almost positive that we really annoyed the drivers when we went past our light.

Finally, in drenched shoes and wet pants, we arrived at school. Everyone was relieved, although no less wet and rushed to their class rooms. My Converse high tops were drenched and my socks couldn't get any wetter. An interesting day for sure.

That's all for now
